Wow, with parts I had in my shop ( bailing wire, rubber washers etc..) I just replaced my $120.00 antenna ( where is that %$#^& receipt! ) and doubled my channels. Amazing. RCA, Thompson, Terk and the likes should be ashamed for selling such garbage.

I live around 40 miles from several towers. I was skeptical because I could only pick up a signal with a amplified antenna. I built this with items I had around the house to try it out. Took longer to get all items together than to build. I just have it sitting in a corner so signal varies, if I put it outside I can get around 60-70 signal on most of my channels. Everyone thought I was crazy when I carried it in the house but after I hooked it up they were in shock. Amazing, saved me $50.

I also bought antennas with&w/o amp & I would be lucky to get 5 chnls; after a trip 2target & walmart many times buying & return, I decide 2 make this 2 see if it actually works. I ended up getting 15-20 chnls but I think only 15 shows up. Indoors facing the windows. I am betting it will get better reception outdoor & better if I had an amp hooked to it. Unfortunally not all local channels are broadcasted here in OH & or too far from where I am at. If you have the time it is worth doing.

Done. Works like a charm. Total cost $5.00
This works as good as the Channel Master 4220HD that cost me 35 dollars.
Indoor I only got some channels. I put it outside and now I get all UHF and VHF channels with high signal.

I finished making this antenna the other day, it works amazingly. I live in Richmond Hill Ontario Canada and cut our satellite service a month ago. I’m a stay at home mom and needed to cut some costs. We had no service what so ever. Now I am receiving over 15 channels, 6 of switch are comming in in 1080i HD. It rocks. I even connected directly to the coax comming out of the old satellite and I am receiving even more channels then before. It is easy and worth making. Do it!!!

ok just made one of these and plugged into an LCD TV … no converter box and i got 12 channels totally clear no pixellation. The UHF/VHF Transformer cost $7 at my local Radio Shack. But it does work … so glad … thanks for sharing this.

yeah cost me 7 bucks too but it works like an effin champion. i just wish it didn’t look so ghetto but o well
CdnSolSeeker 18th September 2009 1:37 pm
AWESOME!!!
buddyfred96 18th September 2009 10:57 pm
I paid $3 for the transformer…I had all the rest….a utility knife blade was used as the scraper and then some sand paper,,it’s free tv!!…if i moved up it would be to the 3 panel ge electric indoor antenna($60),,tried it once, worked pretty good,,,actually, maybe i’d try to use it with this one together,,,to get the most out of it all…but at least now I’m not using any electricity for my 11 pretty good channels..but, be careful with coat hangers not to poke anyone’s(pets too) eyes out….

Works great. Took a while to put it all together, but it was fun. Would have been nice to have a few other camera angles, but I’m not complaining. Thanks!

I tried building this thing and got zilch. I used #10 clean copper, followed the instructions but get nothing except one fuzzy HSN. I live ten miles from downtown Tampa so signals should be booming thru. Bought a new balun at RS in case the one I had laying around didn’t work. Tried several cables, 2 diff. TV’s, nothing. Guess I’ll try a commercial product next. Any suggestions/help? Some posts seem to indicate nothing except a big outside antenna will work. I live in FLA and need radar.

OxcartUser 26th September 2009 3:58 am
Did this and got a substantial improvement in signal strength over my basic rabbit ear / hoop VHF/UHF combo antenna. The thing to remember is that this is a UHF only antenna and there may be some stations in your area broadcasting on VHF freq’s. It’s also a highly directional antenna, so you need to orient the unit properly in order to get the best signal.
spiffywebcreations 26th September 2009 11:28 am
POSSIBLE VHS SOLUTION: Made this version a few days ago – worked great but picked up UHF only. After a bit of research, found some who tried a slightly larger size. Made a larger version – each whisker is 10″ (instead of 7) and they are 9.5″ apart (instead of 5.75). Still used 4 V wires per side. Center board ended up 40″ long. Got 2 local VHF stations at about 70% signal strength! Awesome for a $5 investment. Also, don’t wrap the vertical wires around the screws (read it will decrease signal)

This thing works great, I built 2. One for the house, one for the boat and in downtown Baltimore I get all the major networks perfectly. Thanks for putting this video up!
